You cannot access the WW2 pill box as it’s on private land, but in winter you can just about see it from here through the trees, up on the ridge.
This was one of a series of pill boxes along the river system of Britain and were felt to be a vital ‘backstop’ of defence when the plans were drawn up in the late 1930s. This one would have been part of the defence perimeter for the munitions store, primarily communications so that any enemy movement spotted here could be communicated speedily to the defenders around and below.
