飛鳥時代の637年に隕石が落ちてきたためこの周辺は星崎という地名になったのですが、江戸時代の1632年にも隕石が落ちて来ました。この隕石は現在でも喚続（よびつぎ）神社に社宝として納められています。
この石は1976年に国立科学博物館による鑑定で、本物の隕石であることが証明され、「南野隕石」と命名されました。
A meteorite fell in 637 during the Asuka Period, giving the area the name Hoshizaki (Star cape), and another meteorite fell in 1632 during the Edo Period. This meteorite is still kept as a shrine treasure at Yobitsugi Shrine.
In 1976, the National Museum of Nature and Science authenticated the stone as a genuine meteorite and named it the "Minamino Meteorite.
