Every geocacher who's been good is sure of a cache tonight
There's lots of marvelous firetacks to follow to get it right
Beneath the trees near junction signs there's clues to see
But only if you have a light with thee
That's the way the geocachers seek their night cache.
If you go down in the woods tonight, you'd better not go alone,
It's dark down in the woods tonight, but it's funner than staying at home,
For every geocacher that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Tonight's the night the geocachers seek their night cache.
This night cache will take you approximately 1.5K from the parking spot to the cache location.
You'll need a good flashlight ( a petzel headlamp would work fine too) to spot the fire tacks and you will also need to bring a UV light or black light to see the combination to open the geocache. Shine the UV light all over the cache container to find the combination to the lock.
Start at the Parking Spot and Trailhead and make your way a short way straight down the trail to the Trail Sign with a fire tack on top that signifies you are on Selkirk College Grounds and has a "Bear in Area" sign and go from there. There are fire tacks as soon as you start down the trail to get you going down the main trail that zig-zags down to the river. You will take three tight u-turns with long straight sections on the way down towards the river. There are a few other little turns and bends as well. You will see fire tacks at key locations to ensure you are staying on the right trail but they are spread out due to the length of the walk to the cache, so expect long sections of trail with no fire tacks but watch for them more before and after trail intersections. Shine your light in all directions at key intersections to find the fire tacks that will take you the right way. The fire tacks will generally be at eye level or slightly higher. If in doubt, stay on the trail you are following.
You won't be going on any scrubby offshoot trails; you'll be staying on main, well traveled trails that are easy to follow at night.
It is about 1 kilometer to get you down to the river level and a trail that follows the river upstream; when you reach the river you will be about 600 meters to the cache, just keep following the fire tacks and stay on the main trail. You will eventually reach an information sign and a bench close together with a nice view of the bridge over the highway; keep going. As you get closer to the geocache there will be more single fire tacks along the same trail spaced closer together.
Finally, you will reach a tree beside the trail with three fire tack that are different colours. Stop here and turn around and go back 15 meters, and then walk straight towards the river shining your light as you go until you see four fire tacks together. Here you will find the geocache.
The geocache has a combination lock; you'll find the combination on the cache container when you check it over with your UV light or black light.
Please re-hide the cache as best you can afterward so it's not easily seen.
