Geocache Description:

As the sun faded out of sight and the darkness began to take hold of the land, I knelt to place my last cache for the day. The waxing moon quickly disappeared behind a thick fury of clouds. A storm was arriving. Suddenly, out of the sky came the bright flash from a bolt of lightning. The thunder boomed as if it were placing a curse on my little cache. The winds were swirling the freshly cut grass around me. My senses were tingling.

Up from the dark, two eyes appeared. It seemed as if they were floating against the cold breeze. I wasn’t sure whether I should stay or run as fast as I could to my car. I decided to run, but my body was frozen in fear. The eyes started to come up closer toward me. Terror began to consume my mind. Closer and closer they came. The cold breeze from the deep was so strong that I couldn’t catch my breath to scream.

As I hopelessly watched while the grass was whipping around my face, I could see it was an old man. His hair was red. His eyes were glowing yellow against the flashes of lightning. His fingers were long and twisted. The old man stared into my eyes. My heart was racing.

He quickly spoke with a raspy voice, “I saw you hide something over there, what was it?”

Just a key box”, I answered slowly.

He quickly snapped. “A key box, you say. What kind of key is inside?”

I uttered, “There is no key, just a piece of paper.” I could tell by the way he tapped his fingers on the grate that he didn’t believe me. I started to edge ever so slightly to my car. I needed to get away, and fast.

He began to run his twisted fingers through his hair. “Key boxes are for keys and I'm missing a key. Show me the box! I want to see the key that’s inside it!” He screeched.

With trembling hands I pointed to the hidden key box. “It’s right there, but there is no key.

He reached up and snared the small cache and thrust it open. “The key is gone” He screamed.

By this time the car handle was only a few feet away. I lunged towards the door and opened it. I slammed the door shut and locked it as quickly as I could. As I started the engine, I could see the rage building in his face. As I drove away into the darkness, I could hear him screaming, “The key, the key, where is the key?”

So for the few who are brave enough, approach this cache with caution. Use your skills of stealth. If you happen to have an unwanted key lying around the house, you might want to bring it with you, just in case.

If you read this story you are probably thinking to yourself that you will be looking for a key box. It's just a story.
