Geocache Description:

This cache is located near a "T" intersection of two country roads.  It is a quick STOP and grab.  I originally hid it on May 15th, but that location was rejected as being too close to the farm houses at the corner, so on May 31 I moved it to the West side of the RR tracks to a more isolated location.

Project-GC tracks a statistic called "Cache Centroid".   The best description I could locate was that it is "the point on the surface of the Earth corresponding to the 3-dimensional average of all your [found] cache positions (not including Adventure Labs or Locationless caches).  That is, calculate each cache position as X, Y, and Z in 3 dimensions. Average them all, and that point will be somewhere inside the Earth. Find the point on the surface directly above it, and that is your centroid."

I have seen that statistic and wondered how much it changes as I find geocaches on caching trips (near and far) in all directions from my home in Toledo.    I thought it would be a fun idea to place a series of traditional cache as near as I could to my current calculated Centroid and record the position of the Centroid to that spot over a period of time.  When it moves significantly, I would periodically place a new geocache near to the new position.   I look forward to seeing the movement over time.  I am also curious in which general direction it usually moves.

This is the seventh geocache in the series.  I plan on hiding one of these about every 6 months,  However, that is not an exact schedule.  It has been 6 months since #6 in the series was published.  In that time, the Centroid has moved 4.33 miles to the NNE.  This is mainly due to numerous caching trips to the Detroit area.  Other interesting facts about the current location is that is almost exactly 1 mile north of #4 in the series which was published 13 months ago.    The current location is also about 2.6 miles SW of the position of the first in the series 3 years ago.  I have included an image of all the centroid locations as documented by each geocache in this series and the dates.  It is the background for the cache listing and also in the geocache's photo gallery.    The current location is almost in the center of all the past locations.

My Cache Centroid history from this geocache.

05-15-22: N 41° 04.779 W 083° 59.646 - 0.22 miles (1169 feet) due East.  About 600 feet into the farm field at the end of this road - 43.3 miles SSW from home.

Congratulations to 27Jack and HTBob for the FTF!    Also to 27Jack for continuing her monthly FTF streak.  Thank Keystone for the 2 week delay in the publishing that delayed this one's publish date to June 1.  I also am trying to maintain a monthly FTF streak since my previous streak ended at about the same length as I have for the current streak.
