Risen from the Ashes
In early January 2013 a devastating bushfire engulfed Dunalley and surrounding areas from Forcett to Taranna. The fire caused significant damage to land, houses and property. Considering the speed and ferocity of the fire is was amazing that there was only death, being the sad loss of an interstate firefighter. There were many stories of people sheltering from the fire in the water of the many bays around the area. A Bushfire Recovery Taskforce was established and money raised was used to rebuild the community, including the local primary school and community hall. The foreshore walkway along the Dunalley Canal was also established as part of the recovery effort. As you walk along the walkway you will still see evidence of the fire all these years later.
The cache is not at the listed coordinates (although you will get a lovely view of Dunalley canal from the viewing platform at the posted coordinates).
