Benzie County Ghost Towns Series #8 of 22
Benzie County had a plethora of small communities, especially during the early lumber boom. Each Cache in this Series is near where a Post Office use to operate.
Homestead, in Benzie County, was settled in 1862 on the Platte River. It was also known as Centreville. The town was located on the Ann Arbor railroad about 6 miles east of Benzonia and 7 miles northwest of Thompsonville. The Homestead post office opened June 8, 1864 and closed September 30, 1903. To find this cache, park on the 2 track and head west down the deer trail.
