奈良・平安時代、都と東北地方を結ぶ官道(国道)東山道がここを通っていました。ここには将軍道と伝えられた古い道が残っており、そこを発掘してみると道幅が6mもある立派な東山道とわかりました。その将軍道の名残をとどめる桜があります。ずっと昔、山桜の大木があり、それから何代目かの桜に植え替えられたということです。

2022年 栃木県民の日
栃木県民の日に制定されている6月15日は1873年に旧栃木県と宇都宮県が合併し栃木県が誕生した日です。この日を記念して、2022年の県民の日に栃木にゆかりのあるジオキャッシャーが募りキャッシュを公開しました。

The 15th June is Tochigi Citizens’ Day. Tochigi Prefecture was established on June 15, 1873 with the merger of Tochigi Prefecture and Utsunomiya Prefecture. Celebrating this day, Geocachers loved Tochigi have published caches.

During the Nara and Heian periods, the Tosan-do, an official road (national road) connecting the capital and the Tohoku region, passed through here. An old road, known as the Shogun's Road, still remains here, and when it was excavated, it was found to be a magnificent Tosan-do with a width of 6 metres. There are cherry trees that retain the vestiges of the Shogun Road. Long ago, there was a large mountain cherry tree, which has since been replaced by several generations of cherry trees.
