Pill Box Cache
You can see two WW2 pill boxes from here - south and right of the suspension bridge, and north, in front of the A50 bridge. You cannot legally access them as they are on private land.
They were part of a series of pill boxes along the river system of Britain and were felt to be a vital ‘backstop’ of defence when the plans were drawn up in the late 1930s. These would have been here to defend the river crossing as well as the access to the cross-country route to Stoke.
