Several Chico street names have changed over the years. As you can see in the sidewalk imprint at this intersection, Oakdale St. used to be called South Main Street.
Other examples: Normal was once called Sycamore, Hemlock was Walnut, and W. 22nd St. was Fruitvale.
Keep your eyes open and you may find other former street names memorialized in their sidewalk stamps. Only a few still exist, and they’re steadily disappearing as the sidewalks get repaired and updated.
