Geocache Description:

Placed by Nimchick on behalf of Nimlet, a member of 1st Bream Guides for her Geocaching Badge.

The ancient Forest of Dean has changed many times over the centuries. In medieval times it was a royal hunting forest, before becoming a source of timber for the navy's Tudor warships. By Victorian times it was a major site of industry, with coal mining and tramways punctuating the landscape. In 1938 the Forest was designated the first National Forest Park and today the Forest of Dean is a popular destination for tourists.

Today the forest is still a working forest, producing sustainable timber for the UK market.

The Forest is also a stronghold for nature with larges areas of woodland and open space providing a mosaic of habitats for a wide variety of wildlife. Keep an eye and ear out for the many birds and animals around. You may even see wild boar!

This cache is an ammo tin so suitable for dropping off those travel bugs. It is situated on the lovely walk to Symonds Yat from Christchurch. Nimlet has designed the cache, selected and carefully filled it with swag and chosen the placement with support as part of her Girl Guiding geocaching badge. She has found other caches prior to this and chosen her favourite features to help create a good cache for others to find. The name was chosen as we saw many blackbirds while hiding it! We hope you enjoy it.

Please bear in mind that the tree coverage is thick here so the co-ordinates are as close as we could get. Please see the hint if further help is required.

Cache placed with kind permission from Foresty England.
