“Find a spot where you can be hidden from view for a short time, without looking suspicious. Look round the area carefully, watching how people come and go, noticing what happens at different times of the day or week.
Approach your drop from all directions, to work out when and how a passerby might catch a glimpse of you. Will you see them coming? What action could you take to avoid them?”
- The Spy’s Guidebook - Choosing a Drop (p6)

When I was in primary school, my best friend and I each had our own copy of The Spy’s Guidebook and we dedicated ourselves to becoming spies!
We hid things to be found, wrote in secret codes, used camouflage, followed trails, avoided looking suspicious...hang on, this is STILL sounding very familiar!!!!
To my knowledge, Lucknow Court Reserve has never had a cache in it. It’s a tricky space with a playground at one end and an enclosed area with overlooking houses at the other. I’ve walked through it many times but never come up with a workable location for a hide.
However, recently I was nostalgically flipping through my battered copy of The Spy’s Guidebook and reflecting on some new caching approaches, and I suddenly realised how a Lucknow Court Reserve Drop could work...
