DO NOT FORCE ENTRY INTO CONTAINER. COMBINATION IS IN THE HINT. The township of Kinsman was purchased by John Kinsman of Lisbon, Connecticut, in 1799 from the Connecticut Land Company. Kinsman has been the home of many notable citizens, some of whom include: Philip P. Bliss (1838-1876) and James McGrannahan (1840-1907) were hymn composers and religious musical directors for the nationally-known evangelical Dwight L. Moody Revival Meetings held in Kinsman for thirty years in the late 1800s. Clarence Darrow (1857-1938) was a famous labor and criminal lawyer who grew up in Farmdale and in the "octagon house" in Kinsman. Darrow in probably best known for his work as a defense attorney in the Scopes Trial. Dr. Ernest Lyman Scott's (1877-1966) pioneering method of extracting insulin was later used by Frederick Banting and John Macleod in their Nobel Prize-winning work treating diabetes. Edmond Moore Hamilton (1904-1977) was a science fiction author and his wife, Leigh Brackett Hamilton (1915-1978), was a screen writer. Two of Leigh's popular movie scripts were Rio Bravo and Star Wars II. William (Bill) McKinley (1910-1980) was a Major League Baseball umpire from 1946-1965.
