History of Gingin - Bonus Final
Location Information
Gingin is a town and the administrative centre for the Shire of Gingin, located approximately 67 kilometres north of Perth in Western Australia. It is one of the oldest towns in Western Australia with explorers and pioneers arriving in 1831, just two years after the Swan River Colony was proclaimed. Remnants of its pioneering days, dating back to the 1850s, are still present in town.
The town is known for its agricultural industry. Farms in the surrounding areas produce beef cattle, cereal crops, olives, oranges, and mangoes. The local climate and water from the Gingin Brook support these farming activities.
Gingin also has a scientific presence. It's home to the Gravity Discovery Centre and the Australian International Gravitational Observatory. The site includes a leaning tower, used for free-fall experiments.
