Out and about fishing at nearby Geary Couty State Fishing Lake and suddenly remembered that this area may be opening up soon. After fishing came on over and placed a cache - nothing fancy. The cache that used to be placed here was probrably one of my first dozen or so cache finds ever.
Cache is placed inside Skiddy Cemetery. The town of Skiddy, KS, has a unique history in that it is the ONLY town within the entire USA with the name of SKIDDY. Talking with people that grew up in the immediate area told me that if you wanted to send a letter through the mail system (back in the day when people used to mail letters} all you had to do was wrtie "SKIDDY USA" on the letter and it would be delivered.
The small town of Skiddy, KS, is about 2 miles southeast of this cemetery and was established in 1872. Depending on sources, it is said that a railroad magistrate by the name of SKIDDY put out a challenge to any town that if they named their town after him, he would build a town hall for the town. Skiddy, KS, named themselves after this magistrate but he went back on his word and the town hall never happened.
Today, Skiddy, KS, would be considered a "ghost town" but there are a few residents that still call this town home.
Anyway, about the cache. Cache placed inside the cemetery but well enough away from any graves/head stones. May be an easy find for some and not so easy for others. Nothing fancy here. In order to get to this location travel north/south on US HWY 77 between the the towns of JUnction City/Herington, KS. Once you are about 9 miles or so south of Junction City you should come to an intersection with KS HWY 157/Skiddy West Road (all roads are hard-top). Turn east onto Skiddy West Road and follow it a few miles until it intersects with Skiddy Road. Cemetery will be on northwest corner of intersection.
