Geocache Description:

Everytime I hear that whistle whine

From a lonesome locomotive comin' down the line

It carries my mind away to another place and time...

We found an old railroad spur that crossed the lava field to the north. The hike is a short bushwack through the forest near the Hoffman Island Trail (which was another spur to the south). We tried to follow the old grade from the road to the lava field. It's pretty overgrown, and recent logging can make it rough going. The old rail line that crossed the lava kept travelin' on around the bend... but the blow down was too thick to go any further. While exploring the area we saw an old railroad spike that was left behind in the lava. Who knows what you may see!
