While campers may collect a small amount of “dead and down” wood for use at a campsite, it is illegal to cut green trees without a permit in the BLM Lakeview District. Firewood harvesting is allowed in certain areas with the purchase of a firewood cutting permit, priced at $5 per cord.
This tree was illegal "pruned" by campers over the Memorial Day Weekend 2022. In addition to this tree, five other trees in the campground were cut. The fine for illegally cutting or gathering wood in can range from a $100 fine to one year in jail.
