Kalavryta is a beautiful small village with historic significance. It figured prominently in the early stages of the Greek War of Independence. Here the Flag of the revolt was raised at the monastery of Agia Lavra by bishop Germanos III of old Patras on 21st of March 1821. Kalavryta is the southern terminus of the Diakopto-Kalavryta rack railway, built by Italian engineers between 1885 and 1895. It is also the place where on the 13th of December 1943 the massacre of Kalavryta took place in which 696 Men and boys were machine gunned by German troops.
The geocache is a very small capsule out of plastic with a red cap hidden on a hill in Kalavryta at a canon near a small chapel. It contains the geocaching deceleration as well as the logbook. There is no pen inside.
