Redmond Rain . . . needs to be slowed down
The City of Redmond constructed a new stormwater outfall to Lake Sammamish. They went to a great deal of trouble to save the large cottonwood tree that frequently nests eagles. They constructed a cobble and boulder armored channel with planted willow stakes to prevent erosion of the shoreline. They built a large energy dissipation vault at the end of the pipe to slow down the heavy flows that come down the storm trunk pipe. Then they built a mini-park to meet Shoreline regulations for public access. This mini-park includes some lovely benches that look out onto Lake Sammamish . . . if you peek through the amazingly successful plantings that are preventing erosion of the lake shore. Stop by the site, have a seat to enjoy the view and ponder where the cache may be. When you are ready to search, know that the vegetation provides some nice cover for you, even if it may obstruct your view. Also know that you can find the cache with both feet on concrete. No need to cross any fences or venture onto private property.
This is a really cool place to visit during a heavy rain storm. You can look over the handrail and see the water pouring over the weir as it leaves the energy dissipation vault and flows through the rocks and willows.
All the parking you see near GZ is on private property and is typically signed no parking. During boating season this area gets very crowded during the day. There is plenty of public parking a short walk away.
