Geocache Description:

I have wanted to hide a Church Micro for some time, and as my sister in law is Minister at this very kirk, I thought this was the perfect location! The church website is here.

About the church

There has been a church on this site since the 1600s, but this building was built in 1800. Alterations were made in 1866 and 1932, and there is an impressive stained glass window illustrating scenes from the life of King David.

The church is surrounded by an ancient graveyard, where you find the clues to the final location of the cache. The graveyard has been described as “as reassuring a place to be buried as you could wish for...deep in the woods with the burn besides”.

About the cache

You are looking for a black bison tube.

Enter the churchyard at the posted coordinates. A short anticlockwise walk through the churchyard will lead you to the clues.

Clue 1: At this entrance you will see a large, red gravestone embedded in the wall, remembering Edith Buxton and her husband Baron Polwarth. Which number baron was he? Let this number = A.

Clue 2: At the North end of the churchyard you will see a number of gravestones built into the wall, all remembering members of the Nisbet family. How many plaques? Let this number = B.

Clue 3: There is a date above the blue doors to the church. Let these numbers = C-D-E-F (NB this is the door facing North toward the Nisbet plaques - if you find two doors you will want the later of the two dates)

Clue 4: Continuing anti-clockwise around the church, just past the door, is a bench under the wall – with a small sign on it. How many letters are there in Mary’s husband’s name? Let this number = G

Final location

N 55 51 . D (E/2) (C*2)

W 2 51 . (F+C) (A-G) B
