In fact, there used to be a path from near the current Meguro Station to Otori Shrine that went down Gyoinzaka Hill and crossed a bridge called Taikobashi Bridge.
This Gyonin-zaka was a very steep slope, and a new slope called Gonnosuke-zaka was created.
The name "Shinbashi" comes from the name of the bridge across the Meguro River that passes through Gonnosukezaka.
The bridge is now an arterial road, Meguro-dori, so it is a very busy bridge.

目黒新橋は、目黒川に架かる橋です。
新橋ということはもともとは目黒橋という橋があったのでしょうか？
実は、大鳥神社への参拝道として現在の目黒駅近くからは行人坂を下り太鼓橋という橋を渡る道が昔はありました。
この行人坂が大変きつい坂で、新たに作られた坂が権之助坂です。
そして権之助坂を通る道が目黒川を渡る橋を、新橋と呼んだのが名前の由来です。
今では幹線道路の目黒通りとなっていますので、とても交通量の多い橋です。
