Cache #144
The Federation Council is a local government area located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. This area was formed in 2016 from the merger of the Corowa Shire with its neighbouring Urana Shire. These caches are some random additions to encourage more visitors to this part of the world.
I have never been able to track down the origins of the name of Kentucky for this state forest (SF No. 472). However I have found a Parish Map (Parish of Kentucky) on Trove from 1940 that shows the forest was dedicated in June 1917. The cemetery in the south east corner was also marked as is a Carnsdale P.S. (public school) Site in the south west corner. Another great bird watching spot - a regular spot for Hooded Robins and Chestnut-rumped Thornbills.
As with all caches in the Australian bush beware of snakes in summer. Please park at the entrance (rather than on the road) - you could drive to near the cache but is a short walk. Note that this is a working State Forest (how that is sustainable I don't know) but if operations are occurring then might be better to kep driving. There is a quarry on the northern side of the road (access to that area is limited) so there may be trucks on the road as well.
Good luck!
