Riekkola är ett populärt friluftsområde med motionsspår i nära anslutning till Haparandas södra stadsdelar.
Reservatet är lättillgängligt året runt, med elljusspår, information, fågeltorn och naturstig. Mitt i reservatet ligger parkering och raststuga. Om du följer naturstigen eller elljusspåret österut kommer du till fågeltornet. Här har du utsikt över både sjön Ebonsviken och våtmarken. Följer du stig och spår västerut kommer du till en eldplats inne i skogen.
Området domineras av olika skogstyper men här finns även ett par mindre sjöar, myrar och strandängar. Det unika läget vid havet och samtidigt vid Torneälvens mynning ger upphov till speciella förhållanden beroende på blandningen av sött och salt vatten.

Riekkola is a popular outdoor area with exercise tracks in close proximity to Haparanda's southern districts. The reserve is easily accessible all year round, with electric light trails, information, bird towers and nature trails. In the middle of the reserve is parking and a rest house. If you follow the nature trail or the electric light trail to the east, you will come to the bird tower. Here you have a view of both Lake Ebonsviken and the wetland. If you follow the path and track to the west, you will come to a fire place in the forest. The area is dominated by different forest types, but there are also a couple of smaller lakes, bogs and beach meadows. The unique location by the sea and at the same time at the mouth of the Torne River gives rise to special conditions depending on the mixture of fresh and salt water.
