The Memorial Gardens were commissioned in 1948 as Gardens of Remembrance which incorporate the impressive Cenotaph. The gardens provide an oasis of calm in the midst of a busy urban landscape. Facilities include memorial benches, a play area and sensory gardens.
Rochdale Cenotaph is a First World War Memorial, located in the Memorial Gardens on The Esplanade, in Rochdale in the north west of England. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The memorial was unveiled in 1922 and consists of a raised platform bearing Lutyens' characteristic Stone of Rememberance next to a 10-metre (33 ft) pylon topped by an effigy of a recumbent soldier. A set of painted stone flags surrounds the pylon. Between the flags is a carved wreath enclosing the Rochdale Coat Of Arms. The memorial is not strictly a cenotaph as the sculpture at the top is a human figure rather than an empty tomb, but by placing the figure at the top of the pylon, Lutyens gives him anonymity

The cache is a nano magnetic so your own pen and a set of Tweezers is required. Please beware of Muggles as it is located within the town centre and so can be very busy.
