Geocache Description:

Cambria Riverwalk (Redux)

This cache is located within Cambria Township Park. This park is open from dawn to dusk. Please be aware you seek this at your own risk, if the river is in flood stage, DO NOT ATTEMPT.

One stormy day on the eleventh of May
The wind blew and the rain fell
And the bridge at Cambria went to --
Well! I'd better not tell!

So goes an old poem that the youngsters of the area once knew. Cambria was settled around 1835 and the dam was the source of its economic might. The dam you see before you was built following the damn collapse in 1914. The collapse followed 3.4 inches of rain from Monday into Tuesday about noon. By Monday afternoon, the gates of the damn gave way followed by the east abutment and about 12 feet of earth, which then let the bridge down. There were people on the bridge at the time, but when they felt the bridge move, they were able to get off the bridge before it collapsed.

In the aftermath, with the bridge down, the mail carrier would wade into the river and hand off the mail to a resident, which would continue the deliveries on the other side of town. In the area where this cache takes you is the old ford crossing that was used prior to the construction of the bridges, damns, and during the times they were collapsed. In that spirit, you will have to once again ford the river to locate the cache.
