Welcome to Skull Island !
The cache was placed on a larger island during the early stages of a 33.5 km paddle from Fish Creek (Sikome) to McKinnon flats (N 50° 48.330' W 113° 41.775'). As an alternative closer end point, there is Policeman's Flats (N 50° 50.540 W 113° 56.920). Despite being June, the water levels in the Bow were low and we took 5.5 hrs on the water with a few stops for hides and finds along the way. The Bow river typically has class I/II rapids in this section.
The cache, a bison tube, is in an dark, errie area of debris on the island. There was a good place to make shore on the NE side of the island (N50° 51.751' W113° 59.069') which is also close to GZ. The island is well treed but there a few trails, and a more open green area near the center with signs of the odd camp here and there. No meed for much bushwacking with careful navigation.
Safety:
Please note that any attempt to reach the cache by foot is not recommended as the terrain may be difficult and the water crossing may be dangerous (especially in the winter). Travel by boat is the recommended route, but be sure to use an appropriate craft for the conditions that can handle Class I to II rapids, be aware of current flowrates and water advisories, come equipped with required saftey equipment (life jacket, 15 m of heaving line, bailer, sound signalling device, waterproof flashlight and SOS mirror) and familairize yourself with your pull-out location. Cell signal is spotty along the river, so ensure you have arranged a pickup time at the pull-out location or have a parked vechicle waiting for you.
