I placed this smooth pick-up after our holiday in May ’22, on the one hand because there are still few caches in Maleme, but on the other hand also as a souvenir of this beautiful holiday.
Indeed, every year, through the Central Service for Social and Cultural Action (CDSCA-OCASC) of the Belgian Ministry of National Defense, hundreds of families enjoy a well-deserved holiday at the hotel CASTRO in Maleme, a tourist village in Crete, 17 kilometers west of Chania that belongs to the municipality of Platanias. Maleme has a pebble-sand beach and there are many water sports options.
The Central Service for Social and Cultural Action (CDSCA-OCASC) of the Belgian Ministry of National Defense is an autonomous governmental institution. This social mission institution and its staff are under the direct guardianship of the Minister of National Defense and, by the very nature of its action, is an essential part of the Department.
The CDSCA-OCASC was established to meet the expectations and the individual and collective needs of the National Defense personnel, as well as of the retired National Defense personnel and their families and members (in active duty and retired) of the local and federal police services (the beneficiaries), on the one hand, and of the staff and units in Belgium and abroad, on the other hand. Also personnel of other NATO-partners can make use of the services through the CLIMS-program.
The CDSCA-OCASC is committed to providing a varied range of quality goods and social and cultural services at all times and everywhere, according to needs.
The basic tasks of the CDSCA-OCASC are defined by its legal framework, which states that "The Central Service has the task of meeting the social and cultural needs of the personnel of the Ministry of National Defense". Organizing holidays at home and abroad for beneficiaries is one of those tasks.
Deze vlotte oppikker heb ik geplaatst na onze vakantie in Mei ’22, enerzijds omdat er in Maleme nog weining caches te vinden zijn maar anderzijds ook als aandenken aan deze prachtige vakantie.
Inderdaad, jaarlijks genieten honderden families via de Centrale Dienst voor Sociale en Culturele Actie (CDSCA) van het Belgische Ministerie van Landsverdediging van een welverdiende vakantie in het hotel CASTRO in Maleme, een toeristisch dorp op Kreta, op 17 kilometer ten westen van Chania dat tot de gemeente Platanias hoort. Maleme heeft een kiezel-zandstrand en er zijn veel watersportmogelijkheden.
De Centrale Dienst voor Sociale en Culturele Actie (CDSCA) van het Belgische Ministerie van Landsverdediging is een autonome overheidsinstelling. Deze instelling met sociale opdracht en haar personeel staan onder de rechtstreekse voogdij van de Minister van Landsverdediging en maken door de aard van haar actie, noodzakelijk deel uit van het Departement.
De CDSCA werd opgericht om te beantwoorden aan de verwachtingen en de individuele en collectieve behoeften van het personeel van Landsverdediging, alsook van het gepensioneerd personeel van Landsverdediging en van hun gezinnen (de rechthebbenden), enerzijds, en van de staf en de eenheden in België en in het buitenland, anderzijds. De diensten zijn ook toegankelijk voor het personeel van de lokale en federale politie (in actieve dienst of gepensioneerd). Bovendien kan ook het personeel van andere NAVO-partners gebruik maken van de diensten via het CLIMS-programma.
De CDSCA spant zich in om te allen tijde en overal , naargelang de behoeften, een gevarieerd gamma kwaliteitsvolle goederen en sociale en culturele diensten aan te bieden.
De fundamentele taken van de CDSCA worden bepaald door zijn wettelijk kader dat preciseert dat "De Centrale Dienst tot opdracht heeft te voorzien in de sociale en culturele behoeften van het personeel van het Ministerie van Landsverdediging". Het organiseren van vakanties in binnen- en buitenland voor de rechthebbenden is één van die taken.

En effet, grâce a l'Office Central d'Action Sociale et Culturelle (OCASC) du Ministère de la Défense belge, des centaines de familles profitent chaque annee d’une vacance bien méritée á Maleme, un village touristique en Crète, à 17 kilomètres à l’ouest de la ville de Chania qui appartient à la municipalité de Platanias. Maleme possède une plage de galets et offre de nombreuses possibilités de sports nautiques.
L'Office Central d'Action Sociale et Culturelle(OCASC) du Ministère de la Défense belge est un organisme public autonome. Cet organisme à vocation sociale ainsi que son personnel sont placés sous la tutelle directe du Ministre de la Défense et font, de par la nature même de leur action, partie intégrante du Département.
L’OCASC a été créé pour répondre non seulement aux attentes et aux besoins individuels et collectifs du personnel de la Défense et du personnel pensionné de la Défense ainsi que de leur famille (les ayants-droits), d'une part, mais également et d'autre part, de l'état-major et des unités aussi bien en Belgique qu’à l’étranger. Les services sont également accessibles au personnel de la police locale et fédérale (en service actif ou à la retraite). En outre, le personnel d'autres partenaires de l'OTAN peut également utiliser les services via le programme CLIMS.
L’OCASC s’efforce donc d’offrir en tout temps et tous lieux, suivant les besoins, une gamme variée de biens et de services sociaux et culturels de qualité.
Les tâches fondamentales de l'OCASC sont définies par son cadre légal qui stipule que: "L'Office Central a pour mission de répondre aux besoins sociaux et culturels du personnel du Ministère de la Défense". L’organisation des vacances en Belgique et á l’étranger est une de ces missions.
