West Midlands 2022
St Peter's
In Saxon times the local parishioners shared Stoke church, and it it likely that the Norman Sheriff of Staffordshire (William de Caverswall) built a wooden chapel here in the 11th century. It was in the last 13th Century that the local Rector at the manor (Caverswall Castle) built the stone chapel here. Little remains today thanks to many modifications throughout the centuries - most notably during the early Stuart era (1628-37) and in the late Victorian era (around 1880). Inside you can find a fine early Stuart era altar table, nave, and a wonderful doorway arch surmounted by a hood mould. You can find 13th century remains, too.
Go on in - have a look.
