The area first newspaper, named the Hillsdale County Gazette, was published 04-13-1839 by James Kinman. Mr Kinman was an attorney and one of our early pioneers. Mr. Kinman credited Chief Baw Beese for saving the lives of his sick family during a severe winter illness.
