aka Peabody Island
Crowcroft Pond – 63-acres – was created when the water of Emerson Pond was diverted through a meadow. In the summer, pickerel weed with its spiky carpet of blue flowers and white-water lilies choke the coves and fringes of the pond. Common most everywhere in the shallow waters of ponds, pickerel weed, named so because it can usually be found where pickerel swim and lay their eggs, is likely to take possession if given the opportunity. Only the cattail seems able to hold its own against it.
It is privately owned, but boating is allowed. Fishing is not allowed.
I was wondering what was up with the random rhodedendron bushes, but then I found a memorial in the center of the island. I was unable to find any information on this person online. I cleaned it up a little since it seemed like no had touched it in years. I paid my respects, and moved on. If anyone knows anything about this memorial, I'm all ears. I'm dedicating the cache to this person. I recommend paying your respects if you do visit.
