Devonport Leat #2
Having needed to complete a maintenance visit to our Devonport Leat #1 Cache, and although having driven up and down this lane on many many occasions, somehow we'd never spotted this "Little Bridge", but as it was distant enough from any other Burrator Caches (hopefully!!) it was worth yet another journey back to place this Cache.
The water channel here is the remaining flow of the ancient Devonport Leat, originally constructed around two hundred and fifty years ago, and these days diverted to top up the modern water supply to Devonport, via Burrator Reservoir, and I guess, by the by, to Plymouth as well. Ironic really, as it was originally constructed when Drake's Leat was constrained to supplying Plymouh and Stoke alone, which is why Devonport needed it's own dedicated Leat.
As a rather narrow bridge, and once again just a simple stone slab, this short narrow crossing of the Leat certainly does qualify as a "Little Bridge".
We would like to say thank you to the Dartmoor National Parks Authority for their kind permission allowing us to place this Cache, which is placed observing the DNPA Geocaching Guidelines.
Ideal for Cache & Dash, or Coffee Break!

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then, the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast. There is a stats listing, so you can see how many Little Bridges you have found, you can find it here: - Little Bridges Geocaching Series (littlebridgesseries.co.uk). If you would like to add to the series, please go to this site, on the tab Get Involved click number request and fill in the form. To qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xxxx then the name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to stats list.
