Geocache Description:

Estimated time to complete: 30 min
Estimated distance to travel: 1km round trip

Night caches take you on a mini-adventure in the dark and are a fun way of caching with a group. The only extra equipment you need for this cache is a torch, even a phone torch will do. A couple of tips can help raise your experience a further notch or two:

  • Be sure to hold your torch up at eye level. Reflectors bounce light straight back (at the torch), so if your torch is close to your eyes, the reflectors will appear at their brightest.
  • If you happen to have a strong red-light torch the reflectors will still work well, but the light won‘t scare away nocturnal animals. If you are lucky, this may help you spot possums, owls, kangaroos and other wildlife as part of your adventure.

At the listed coordinates, you will find a sign with the 4-digit ID: XY42.

Use X and Y to find the coordinates for the start of a reflector trail:

S37 30.7(X-7)(X-2) E145 07.6(Y-1)(Y-3)

Checksum = 58

At the start of the reflector trail, shine your torch at approximately chest height. You should see the first reflector and, if you scan around, further reflectors should be visible at a similar or greater height.

Follow the reflector trail until you come to a pair that are just a few centimetres apart. You are now 20m from the cache. Scan around for a cluster of 3 reflectors. Look at the base of the tree.

Good luck!
