Geocaching NSW would like to invite all geocachers to attend our next event - a walking event in the Mulgoa area, south of Penrith.
The event itself is an informal meet and greet gathering at the Rileys Mountain Lookout overlooking the Nepean River Gorge. Those who attend will have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends with a common interest, pick up the latest information on equipment, techniques and software, share stories about the latest caching adventure and swap travel bugs and geocoins. You may even pick up a hint on those pesky DNFs or get a clue or two on how to solve a puzzle cache you’ve been stumped on.
Details of the event and the walk to get there are as follows:
Date: Sunday, 24th July, 2022.
Event Time: 10:30am to 11:00am.
Location: Rileys Mountain Lookout.
Getting There By Vehicle: From Penrith or the M4 Motorway, follow Mulgoa Road towards the Mulgoa town centre, then turn right into Fairlight Road. Note that the last couple of kilometres of Fairlight Road is unsealed. There are quite a few potholes, but overall this road can be negotiated with a 2WD vehicle, as long as care is taken.
Parking: There is plenty of parking at the start of the walk. See parking waypoint.
Cost: There is no cost to attend this event.
What to Bring: Please BYO sufficient personal food and drink requirements for the walk.
Photo: A group photo will be taken during the event at the lookout.
The Walk: For those who wish to walk as a group, we will meet in the carpark at 9:15am for a 9:30am departure. The walk is mainly along well defined fire trail and is approximately 2.6km long. The track is considered easy to moderate with some mildly steep sections.
Walkers with Children: Please be aware that the lookouts are unfenced, so please be careful if you have children with you.
Biking: The track is suitable for mountain biking.
Extras: For those who wish to, either before or after the event, continue out to the Mulgoa Trig Station and Nepean Narrows Lookout, a round trip if 11km from the carpark.
Dogs: Unfortunately, your geopup is not permitted in this part of the world.
Please post your "Will Attend" so you can receive announcements about this event.
Here's hoping you can come along and help make this event an enjoyable social geocaching gathering.
Cheers,
Geocaching NSW Committee
