This is an addition to the Pirton Pootle caches and could be a starting point, parking somewhere in the village. It fills in a gap in the loop walk but the GZ was unavailable for a couple of years while the path was out of use during development work. It has now been returned as a public path. Theoretically, it could be a cache and dash but one should not park on this road as it is narrow but busy. You are looking for a small magnetic tube with a log only. Opposite the GZ there is a footpath that leads into a large field today. Go back a few hundred years and you would find the field to be covered with houses. This was the heart of Pirton and there is evidence on the ground of holloways and housing tofts amongst the lumps and bumps. Across the field, you can see the church and to its left the motte where Pirton Castle once stood.
