The Cottonmouth is one of 3 species of venomous pit vipers found in this region of the United States. They get their name from the white coloring on the inside of their mouths, which they show when they feel threatened. Sometimes they are also known as water moccasins.
Besides the venomous Cottonmouth, the harmless Diamondback water snake and Plainbellied water snake are also pictured here. These two other species of snakes are very often mistaken for the Cottonmouth. All three of these species live near water (hence the name water snake) and eat mostly fish and frogs. Young Cottonmouths have a green tail that they often wiggle to lure frogs and toads into striking distance.
To get the co-ordinates you need to decide which of the 3 sets of pictures is the venomous Cottonmouth.
