Geocache Description:

The Harrison River is a short but large tributary of the Fraser River. The Harrison drains Harrison Lake and is the de facto continuation of the Lillooet River, which feeds the lake.

The confluence of the rivers is where the Harrison flows into the Fraser. There is a dramatic change in the colour of the water as it goes from emerald green to silty brown. The Fraser River is cloudy and brown due to its length. Since the Fraser River runs almost 1,400 km long it picks up huge amounts of fine silt. Each year the Fraser River carries about 20 million tons of silt and deposits it into the Salish Sea.

In order to log this EC, please go to the posted coordinates, look southwest towards where the 2 rivers meet, and answer the following questions:

  1. In your own words please summarize why the waters of the 2 rivers are different in colour and temperature.
  2. Please measure the elevation at the posted coordinates and estimate the elevation at the reference waypoint.
  3. What river feeds Harrison Lake?
  4. At the posted coordinates - other than being a wonderful viewpoint, what other activity is popular here?
  5. Please post a picture of your geocaching crew or personal item @ the GZ.

Please message or email me your answers.
