Park Cemetery was opened in 1892 by ilkeston Corporation of 22 acres of land bought from the Anglican Parish of ilkeston at a price of £150 per acre. The twin Cemetery chapels were constructed in 1910 and are Grade II listed buildings. The Cemetery is the last resting place of prominent ilkeston citizens from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and contains several impressive and interesting memorials. It is also the burial place of many local people who could not afford any marker for their graves and of many local service people who fought in conflicts from the Crimean War to the present day. The cemetery is now owned and managed by Erewash Borough Council.
