I wondered - what is stronger - a triangle or a circle?
I searched by everyone's (?) favourite search engine found a site that answers questions. Oh good!
One answer on the site said:
Depends on what you mean by stronger. If you mean more rigid and less prone to deformation then presumably the triangle because if you look at structures where such matters are important then you invariably see triangles. The fact that you can’t fit circles together without gaps in between might have something to do with it but you need a structural engineer to give a better answer
And just below that,
Structurally, a triangle is the strongest shape. A triangle constructed from three rigid rods, can only have one shape. It requires no strength from the joints, and relies solely on the strength of those rods to maintain its shape.
And then somebody pops in and asks
What is a circle that comes in a square and eaten as a triangle?
