In questa area sorgeva la grande filanda Zuppinger che, realizzata nel 1910, dava occupazione a circa 300 persone. Le operaie “filandere”, che arrivavano dai paesi della provincia, alloggiavano nel caseggiato contiguo alla filanda, chiamato, “Alcazar”, che fungeva da pensionato. Verso il 1950 l’attività della ditta Zuppinger cessò e i locali vennero acquistati dalla ditta Callioni, che li adibi ad oleificio e deposito di granaglie. Una delle macine dell’ oleificio è rimasta nel giardino a testimoniare il passato. Il complesso di edifici della filanda fu demolito negli anni ’80. A lato del giardino sorge la vecchia chiesa parrocchiale di cui abbiamo notizia già nel 1240. Nel corso del tempo subisce diversi lavori di sistemazione e ampliamento per il numero accresciuto di abitanti. Nel 1925 entrerà in funzione la chiesa nuova, la vecchia parrocchiale sarà sconsacrata e alienata nel 1946.
Oggi un pioppo cipresso vicino alla facciata rappresenta il campanile “verde” della chiesa. Ciliegi accompagnano il percorso nel giardino.

The old Zuppinger cotton mill, established in 1910, used to be in this area and employed around 300 people. The workers, called “filandere”, came from many small towns throughout the province, staying in the tenements adjacent to the mill, called “Alcazar” that was operated by the retired workers. In 1950 the mill was closed and purchased by the Callioni company that stored grain and pressed olive oil. One of the grindstones was placed in the garden as a reminder of this area’s industrial past. The mill buildings were demolished in the 1980s. On one side of the park is the old parochial church that can be dated back to 1240. Over time the church was remodeled and expanded due to the increasing population. In 1925 the new church was sanctified and the old church was deconsecrated in 1946.
Today a cypress tree stands as a green symbol for the old bell tower. In addition cherry trees are planted throughout the park.
This is my first geocache so it is a simple navigate and find which shouldn't require too much effort.
BEWARE OF MUGGLES: the park may be empty but there are many apartments with a good view of the park. Bring a pen and tweezers.
