Geocache Description:

This geocache is part of the Murweh Triangle Geoart.  It is NOT at the published coordinates.  To find the cache, you need to work through the following.

Experience Augathella “Meat Ant Country” and the rich historical culture the town provides. Take a stroll through Meat Ant Park located right next door to the town library and Visitor Information Centre. View the giant meat ant sculpture in the park; it is over a million times the size of an actual ant. While there you can view the storyboards located around the park.

Some history on the notorious bushranger brothers Patrick and James Kenniff can be found at the Kenniff tree. The brothers were a part of one of Queensland’s largest manhunt lasting over thirteen years.

View all the amazing murals along the main street, created by locals to showcase their love of the region. From the great sheep stations to the 1950’s movie “Smiley”. Then to show their creativity the town also displays various wrought iron sculptures around the town.

For some more recent history take a look at the Q150 shed, Queensland’s most unique entertainment venue. It travelled the state in 2009 providing communities a free night of entertainment.

Folk Songs were an integral part of entertainment in previous centuries.  One song, Brisbane Ladies, describes an old stock route from Brisbane to Nanango via Blackbutt and ' Taromeo’ station somewhat north of Blackbutt.  The route from there to Augathella is not mentioned in the song, which, in its various verions is also know as The Drovers' Song and Augathella Station.

Farewell and adieu to you Brisbane ladies
Farewell and adieu to you girls of Toowong
For we've sold all our cattle and have to be moving
But we hope we shall see you again before long

Chorus
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Queensland drovers
We'll rant and we'll roar as onward we push
Until we return to the Augathella station
It's flaming dry going through the old Queensland bush

The first camp we make we shall call it the Quart Pot
Caboolture then Kilcoy and Collington's hut
We'll pull up at the Stone House, Bob Williamson's paddock
And early next morning we cross the Blackbutt

Then onto Taromeo and Yarraman Creek lads
It's there we shall make our next camp for the day
Where the water and grass are both plenty and sweet lads
And maybe we'll butcher a fat little stray

Then onto Nanango that hard-bitten township
Where the out of work station hands sit in the dust
And the shearers get shore by old Tim the contractor
I wouldn't go by there but I flaming well must

The girls of Toomancy they look so entrancing
Those young lively heifers are out looking for fun
With the waltz and the polka and all kinds of dancing
To the rackety old banjo of Henry Gunn

Then fill up your glasses and we'll drink to the lasses
We'll drink this town dry then farewell them all
And when we return to Augathella Station
We hope you'll come by there and pay us a call

There is a good version of the song available on YouTube.
