SideTracked 2022 - Greenville, SC - 15th Anniversary
This is an event to celebrate SideTracked day whilst in America on holiday. Normally I would either place a cache or attend an event in Scotland. This event has fitted in with my travels and is co-hosted by The Border Reivers.
A chance to catch up with other cachers and swap some caching stories.
SideTracked caches are a very popular geocaching series in the United Kingdom. The SideTracked Series will be celebrating its 15th Anniversary during the week of August 7 - 13 of this year. An event celebrating this special anniversary will be held at Linky Stone Park on August 10, 2022 from 6:30 - 7:00 PM. Attendees will be eligible to add a unique badge to their geocaching.com public profile page.
What are SideTracked caches?
SideTracked caches are intended to provide quick cache-and-dashes at train stations and can also be found near former/historic railroads and miniature railroads as well. There are currently 4,588 SideTracked caches in over 30 different countries.
Swamp Rabbit Railroad
The now defunct Greenville and Northern Railroad, nicknamed the Swamp Rabbit Railroad, was a shortline railway running 11.3 miles from Greenville to Travelers Rest in South Carolina. The first completed construction of the railroad north out of Greenville was in 1887. Rail operations ended in February 1998 and the rail bed was converted for use as the Swamp Rabbit Rail Trail by 2009. This SideTracked Event is located near the former Greenville rail station and engine “turntable” along the Swamp Rabbit trail.
