Lychee Park is located between Shenzhen's first-generation CBD and the former municipal government. In 1982, the park was built on the basis of 500+ old lychee trees and low-lying paddy fields, which originally belonged to the nearby Caiwuwei Village. When the park was built, the land acquisition fee was ¥1,200 per mu, and the large lychee tree was ¥300 each. In order to build the park, more than 1 million yuan needs to be paid to farmers. This may not seem like a huge expense now, but the government at the time couldn't afford it at all. It took several years for the government to pay it off.
