(RO) Lacul Gilău amenajat în apropierea localității Gilău preia apa uzinată prin hidrocentrala situată la poalele barajului Someșul Cald. Părăsind turbinele apa ajunge într-o albie betonată și după un parcurs de cca. 300 m, se varsă în coada lacului de acumulare Gilău. Lacul de aici a apărut prin ridicarea unui baraj de 23 m, în anul 1971. La acea vreme, neexistând lacul Someșul Cald, apele veneau direct de la acumularea Tarnița.
Barajul de o lățime de 285m reține 4.2 milioane de metri cubi de apă. Aici se mai varsă și afluenții Someșului Cald și Someșul Rece. Acest lac de 68 de ha este sursa de apă potabilă pentru orașul Cluj-Napoca. Poluarea apelor din amonte creează probleme serioase uzinei de apă Gilău, unde se potabilizează apa captată din lac. Nu este de mirare că specialiștii luptă pentru interzicerea tuturor activităților pe lacurile care alimentează uzinele de apă potabilă.
