Cache Location
From dawn until dusk, visitors are invited to enjoy the beautiful 17-acre Duncan Lake in Downtown Hattiesburg, featuring a walking track, pavilions, and a disc golf course - and home to a ton of geese, ducks and other wildlife! In May 2021, the City of Hattiesburg cut the ribbon on a multi-use pathway trail extension that connects the eastern area of the lake - a unique sandhill ecosystem that includes rare species of flora and fauna not found in other habitats, one of six such sandhill environments in the State of Mississippi and one of only two on public lands.
Between August and December 2022, Duncan Lake was the beneficiary of several hundred hours of volunteer efforts to beautify the park via over $16,000 in improvements made possible through an AARP Community Challenge grant coordinated by the City of Hattieburg's Community Arts Center, Hattiesburg Landmark Preservation, the Downtown Hattiesburg Association, and Piney Woods Conservation Group. Don't miss the Duck, Duck, Goose mural covering the entire 500-square foot restroom pavilion, the work of local artist/muralist Gabby Smith, installed during the project and added to the Hattiesburg Public Art Trail as mural #31!
