With more than 40 geocache hides to find, Hattiesburg offers one of only 100 active official GeoTours worldwide. Presented by VisitHATTIESBURG, the Hattiesburg GeoTour is the first of its kind in Mississippi.  Locate a minimum of 35 of the GeoTour caches and turn in your completed passport to receive your official Hattiesburg GeoTour Geocoin!

Cache Location

In September 1921, with W.H. Jones as its Principal, Eureka School opened its doors as the second brick school built for African American students in the state of Mississippi. Eureka epitomized the importance of education in the African American community and was its cherished centerpiece. In 2018, a historic renovation of the school was completed and Hattiesburg was re-introduced to the beautiful Mississippi Landmark in its former glory.

With the restoration of the Historic Eureka School complete, plans continue with its transformation into a museum. The Historic Eureka School Museum will chronicle the Hattiesburg area’s African American heritage and culture and the Civil Rights Movement, particularly highlighting the activities of Freedom Summer 1964.

The Hide

Originally, the cache was an ammo can custom-painted by local artist/muralist Gabby Smith. Unfortunately, it was muggled and replaced with a micro.
