This Geocaching event is a meet-and-greet social in the parking lot of the Dr. Cooke's Historic Medical Office in Holmdel. To earn this Event icon, simply stop by the parking lot between 11:45am and 12:30pm to sign the log book.
Optional Four-Hour Scavenger Hunt: 12:00pm to 4:00pm

While the event itself has a terrain rating of 1.0 (wheelchair-accessible), most terrains for the scavenger hunt are not wheelchair-accessible (ranging from 1.5 to 2.5).
Scavenger Hunt Details
- The optional scavenger hunt starts at 12:00pm at this event location and ends at 4:00pm at the same location.
- Scavengers should gather around at 11:50am to sign up and hear the introduction.
- Scavengers can compete in the hunt as a team or individual (team of 1).
- Teams can have no more than 4 people (exceptions for children) and should stay together, traveling in one vehicle, for the duration of the hunt.
- Teams (including individuals) must sign up at the start. Scavengers cannot combine teams during the hunt.
- Lists of 40 items will be handed out promptly at 12:00pm.
- Each item will earn 1 to 3 pts as indicated on the list.
- A team can only earn points for an item once. If the item is a Pine Cone, a team can only earn points for 1 Pine Cone even if it turns in 8 Pine Cones.
- Items on the list are either:
- Physical Finds: Items to turn in for scoring. No coords provided, but they might be things found along the trail or in your geocaching backpack. Items will be returned to you upon scoring.
- Answers to Questions: Based on coords provided or, in a few cases, coords to solve.
- Required Photos: Some at specific coords provided; some of things you might find in the area. Photos must include the object issued to the team.
- Teams will only receive 1 object for photos for the entire team to discourage splitting up. Scavengers competing as individuals (teams of 1) will, of course, receive 1 object for photos.
- Suggested Equipment: GPSr or Smartphone w/GPS. Device for taking a digital or instant photos. Vehicle. Trail or old shoes. Raincoat. Pens. Clipboard.
- Scavengers must return to the starting point (parking lot for Dr. Cooke's Historic Medical Office) by 4:00pm to hand in their loot for scoring. It's okay to finish early.
- Loot will be returned once scored.
- Winners will be announced as soon as scoring has completed after the 4:00pm finish.
- To assist with planning & so you can receive announcements, Scavengers are encouraged to log a Will Attend indicating intention to compete in the hunt.
About SCAVENGER 2022
SCAVENGER 2022: Beyond the Ramanessin is JerseyEric's 2nd annual scavenger hunt, inspired by his participation in the late sofiecat's final annual scavenger hunt, 2012 SJG SCAVENGER HUNT, at Wharton State Forest in Shamong, NJ.
SCAVENGER 2022 focuses on the lower part of the Ramanessin Greenway network of trails (Bayonet Farm to the Greenway Nature Trail near Village School) and beyond -- parks by the Swimming River Reservoir (Cross Farm Park and Lincroft's Thompson Park). The Ramanessin Brook is often named Hop Brook on maps; no one seems to know why.
The annual SCAVENGER series will move to a new area of Monmouth, Middlesex or Ocean County every year . . . just as a coyote travels far to scavenger for food. Results from the SCAVENGER 2021 event are listed on the cache page.
