This cache is a part of a series to recognize Lincoln Parks young and old, well known and hidden.
Welcome to Cooper Park! Before Lincoln was even a city 11.54 acres were set aside to be used as a city park. A well was sunk in 1882 that supplied the city's water for several years. Lincoln's original park is home to the first ever game and home game for University of Nebraska's first football team, the Old Gold Knights. They were victorious, on November 27, 1890, against the Omaha YMCA, 10-0. 1892 their name changed to the Nebraska Bugeaters and by 1900 the legendary "Nebraska Cornhuskers" was officially adopted. This park was rededicated on August 10, 1954 as Cooper Park.
