Fâneţele cu narcise este o rezervaţie botanică care se intinde pe o suprafaţă de circa 20 ha între localităţile Sălaşu de Sus şi Nucşoara, în apropierea Parcului Naţional Retezat şi este considerată o insulă preistorică în care încă mai cresc plante din epoca glaciară, când toată zona era o imensă taiga. Specialiştii spun că insula de flori de la poalele Retezatului îşi are rădăcinile şi rezistenţa în faptul că printre pietrele de granit de sub sol curg ape reci din munţii Retezat, care au un efect de frigider şi răcesc locul. Narcisele sunt plante erbacee, a căror tulpină are în partea superioară o singură floare, mare, de culoare galbenă sau albă. Localnicii spun că primele narcise au fost aduse în Sălaşu de Sus pe la 1900 de către un olandez, florile adaptându-se foarte bine la condiţiile de mediu. Narcisele din fâneţe înfloresc în luna mai şi începutul lunii iunie, creeînd astfel un peisaj feeric. Ȋn ultimii ani, în perioada 10-20 mai, pe acest loc se desfăşoară o manifestare devenită deja tradiţonală, denumită Festivalul Narciselor. Nu numai localnicii vin să întâmpine spectacolul naturii, ci şi numeroşi turişti, care ajung aici pentru a se relaxa şi admira acestă spendoare. Mulţimea de vizitatori are ce vedea, pentru că primăvara trezeşte la viaţă, odată cu narcisele şi fluturele “Grilaj”, care nu trăieşte decâţ câteva zile. Legenda spune că acest fluture ii călăuzeşte pe cei morţi din lumea aceasta către tărâmul umbrelor. Un alt fluture deosebit întâlnit în Poiana Narciselor de la poalele Retezatului este “Albătriţa”, despre care cunoscătorii spun că îşi hipnotizează victimele, mai excat furnicile, pe care le ademeneşte cu nişte sunete specifice. Odată hipnotizate, furnicile duc Albăstriţa în muşuroi, unde fluturele găseşte căldură, apă şi hrană sufiente fără a depune niciun efort.

The Daffodil Meadows is a botanical reservation which stretches on a 20-hectare surface between Sălaşu de Sus and Nucşoara in the vecinity of Retezat National Park, it is considered a prehistoric island where plants still grow since the Ice Age, when the whole territory was a huge taiga. The specialists say that flower island at the fool of Retezat Mountain has his roots and endurance as under the ground among the granite stones flow the cold streams of the Retezat Mountain which have a refreshing effect that cool the place. The daffodils are herbaceous plants whose strain has a single yellow or white flower on its upper part. The locals say that the first daffodil were were brought to Sălaşu de Sus in 1900 by a Duchman, the flowers easily adjusted to the environmental conditions. The daffodil from the meadows bloom in May and at the beginning of June, thus setting the most enchanting landscape. In the last years, between the 10th and 20th May, it’s here that the tradional the Festival of the Daffodils has taken place. Not only do the locals come to see the beauty of nature, but also the tourists who come here to relax and admire this spendor. The visitors have plenty to see, as spring awakes along with the daffodils the Grid butterfly, that only lives for a couple of days. The legend says that this butterfly leads this world’s dead towards the land of shadows. Another butterfly is the “Blue” in the meadow of the daffodils at the Retezat Mountains, it’s said that this butterfly mesmerizes its victims, more exactly the ants, whom it lures with special sounds. Once hypnotized, the ants take the “Blue” into the mound, where the butterfly finds warmth, shelter and enough food without any effort.
