The Battle of Guilford Courthouse
The Battle of Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina took place on March 15, 1781. Although the British Army, led by Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis scored a tactical victory, the American forces, led by Major General Nathanael Greene, inflicted such heavy losses upon the British forces that Cornwallis was forced to abandon his campaign for the Carolinas. In October of 1781, Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington following the Battle of Yorktown, Virginia.
