Welcome to the Farewell to Finder’s Fest geo-art, brought to you by the Forest Minions! This series celebrates weird and unusual things throughout the Sunshine State. Please do not go to the posted locations. Rather, solve the challenging quiz found at the bottom of each page, for the final location. For the letterbox caches, please leave the stamp in the cache. They are not trade items. For the discerning traveler, we’ve included the GPS coordinates for these bizarre locations, when we were able to establish them.
Key West’s Living Doll – Location 24.5529, -81.7549
In the Key West Martello Museum, resides a creepy, handmade doll named Robert. Robert was created by a Voodoo practitioner, who was the oft abused servant of the Otto family. The servant made the doll for the Otto’s son, Gene, and the hauntings began immediately after. Like a poltergeist, Robert would reportedly trash Gene’s room, and could be heard talking to Gene, and giggling in a strange tone.
As an adult, Gene locked the doll into his attic, and would come down to find Robert seated in a rocking chair, on the front porch. Robert was eventually donated to the museum, where his antics continue. Robert is said to wander the museum, after hours, leaving tiny footprints in the dust, coming from, and returning to, his sealed glass case.
